It Wasn't the Dryer

Sometimes I feel like my life is a test case for Murphy's Law

I came home from work to the hotel and put in a load of laundry with most of my clothes
( I wait til I have a good sized but not really large load )

I was lucky because no-one else was using either the washers or the dryers

I waited the 1/2 hour it takes for the wash and then went back downstairs to put them in the dryer

When I got to the laundry room I found it filled with smoke and then the Fire Alarm went off

"Funny" I thought "None of the Dryers seem to be smoking"
then I looked over at the washer my clothes were in..

It was not quite Billowing (but close).White Smoke

"Oh Dear" (Not my Actual Exclamation)
and I went over to see how many of my clothes were being consumed

What happened is the washer tub had somehow locked
and when the washer went into spin cycle the belt overheated and started to burn

Fortunately because the Spin cycle did not happen my clothes were soaking wet
and had not become hot enough to suffer any damage

After the Firemen left, all I had to do was put them in the dryer for a bit longer and everything was fine

Except for the fact that the elevator went into Lockdown when the Fire Alarm went off
and they were not able to get it working again
so I had use the stairs to get back to my room along with my now clean laundry

Did I mention I believe Murphy was an Optimist ?
