I am a “Big Sky” Astronomy Buff

I like to see the Night Sky as Dark and as Clear as possible
not through a telescope but just by looking up to see its beauty

There are very few locations in the East that offer really dark skies;
free of light pollution from cities and suburbs

I recently worked in Texas near places that are Light Pollution free
So, I decided to take a ride to see a True Dark Night Sky

My trip took me to someplace very remote.
In fact not only was light pollution nonexistent;
so was Cell Service.

I found a pulloff by the side of the road, got out of the car
and waited for my night vision to kick in

After awhile a pickup truck with US Govt. markings pulled up
and a very pleasant border patrol agent asked me.

“Sir, What exactly are you doing here?”

I mumbled something about “Escaping light pollution to see the Stars”

“Why did you choose this particular road?
You know this isn't the safest place in the state;
and the Border Patrol is out here for a reason.”

We had a brief conversation that involved me voluntarily showing him my ID;
and I was able to convince him I wasn't involved in any illegal activity
and was in fact there to just “star gaze”

As he was leaving I said
“Sir, tell them you found just another Crazy 'Anglo' ”
and he broke into a big smile and then went on his way

I stayed awhile longer and enjoyed the absolutely stunning view of the sky
but I really didnt want to have other visitors that evening.

So after this adventure is my need to see Dark Night Sky Satisfied?
No Way !!!

This is an addiction that must be fed,
So, there is no telling where I will go next

I just wonder which government agency I may run into there
