More Fun with Home Wireless

I bought a used Wireless Router last year to upgrade our Internet Speed. Our Internet Provider had faster speeds than our old router could support. It worked well enough, giving us faster internet, but the web interface showed it was overheating, the fan stopped working and the Status Light was Always Blinking Orange. My solution (after spending much Troubleshooting time) was to turn it over so the bottom air vent faced upwards and the heat could dissipate.

Recently it was not working quite as well as I liked & before I spent money on a new one I decided to try a few settings changes first. Most Routers have multiple channels that work together; a faster one for smaller spaces & a somewhat slower one that reaches out farther. Our Condo isn’t that large so I thought maybe disabling the slower one might help.

The “Experiment” was working reasonably well; internet speeds had increased on most devices but the dead spots had gotten even worse. I was resigned to living with the results while I decided on a New Router. Until I noticed that our printer wouldn’t connect to the faster channel. We cant go without the printer so that ended my test then & there. I went back in & re-enabled the slower channel; prepared to look for a Replacement Router.

After it rebooted I noticed something very unusual; the Status light on the Router was Glowing Green !!!
My tests showed that it now was working Normally (which it had Never Done) Internet Speeds throughout the House had increased dramatically & there were no more Dead Spots anywhere.

As my Father Smitty would say
“We Saved money on that, so now we can put it to Better Use”
